Mobile Stories is a tool that teaches students aged 12–19 critical thinking and responsibility towards information they share and consume through creating and publishing their own stories on an international platform alongside peers from other countries. The Mobile Stories Newsroom tool can be integrated into any school subject and is perfect for cross-curricular or Transition Year students.
As students create their content, they receive step-by-step guidance through short videos featuring professional journalists and fact-checkers. The digital assistant ‘Trusty’ supports them throughout the process, ensuring they complete all necessary steps before publishing.
With Mobile Stories, students can explore a variety of topics while developing essential skills in source verification, content structuring for articles or podcasts, and ethical publishing practices. Once their work is approved by a teacher, they can publish their stories. Each school also receives its own dedicated page on the platform.
Launched in Sweden in 2019, Mobile Stories has reached more than 13,000 Swedish students. It has since been piloted across Europe and is now successfully used in Ireland, Romania, Belgium, France and Swedish-speaking Finland.
All these efforts have led to a tool that most students find easy, relevant and fun to use, as Mobile Stories user experience survey shows. 91% of students said they found the video content engaging, and 96% said the content is up to date. Teachers have been particularly enthusiastic about its transformative potential and have shared their experience with Mobile Stories here.
As part of the EU project Promoting Media Literacy and Young Citizen Journalism (ProMS), up to 15 schools in Ireland will receive free access to Mobile Stories until at least March 2026.
