MLI Awards T&Cs

Valid entries must fulfil both the general competition guidelines and the relevant category guidelines

General

  • These awards are being run by Media Literacy Ireland – an independent alliance of individuals and organisations working together on an informal and mainly voluntary basis to promote media literacy in Ireland. MLI is facilitated by Coimisiún na Meán.
  • The opening date for entries is 19 May 2025. Closing date for entries is 14 July 2025.
  • These awards are open to individuals, groups and organisations on the Island of Ireland.
  • Any entry that has not previously won an MLI Award is eligible, as long as it meets the category criteria.
  • Winners will be announced within three months of the closing date.
  • Entry to the Awards is free. No purchase is necessary.
  • A valid entry consists of a fully completed entry form, completed via the medialiteracyireland.ie website. Accompanying supporting information should be uploaded with the entry form OR emailed to info@medialiteracyireland.ie midnight on 14 July 2025.
  • An independent panel of judges will select the winning entry in each category from valid entries received. The decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • Entrants are invited to select the award category that they feel aligns with their project. MLI reserves the right to suggest the re-allocation of the entry to another category. In these circumstances, entrants will be contacted for their permission to do so.
  • The promoter is excluded from liability for any loss, damage or injury which might occur to the winner arising from his or her acceptance of the award.
  • The winner may be required to participate in unpaid promotional related publicity undertaken by the promoter or its associated companies.
  • Promotional activities, include but are not limited to: online advertising, promotion on social media and via www.medialiteracy.ie website.
  • The winning entries will be displayed on www.medialiteracy.ie and other MLI member websites and social media channels.
  • Entry to these awards category shall be deemed full and unconditional acceptance of the terms & conditions.
  • Media Literacy Ireland reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions.
  • These terms and conditions shall be governed by the laws of Ireland and subject to the jurisdiction of the Irish Courts.
  • No responsibility is taken for entries that are lost, delayed, misdirected or incomplete or cannot be delivered or entered for any technical or other reason. Proof of delivery of the entry is not proof of receipt.
  • All entries must be original work by individuals involved and must not infringe on copyright/trademark rights
  • Entries must be submitted in English but supporting evidence can be submitted in Irish.

Additional guidelines for Best Media Literacy initiative for young people

  • The target audience of this initiative must have been children or young people aged under 18, living on the island of Ireland.
  • The initiative must have helped to empower the target audience to develop skills, knowledge and/or competencies to be able to make informed choices about the media content and services that they consume, create and disseminate.
  • Projects or initiatives that have previously won an MLI award are not eligible.

Additional guidelines for Best Media Literacy initiative for older people 

  • The target audience for this initiative must have been older people aged 65 or over, living on the island of Ireland.
  • The initiative must have helped to empower the target audience to develop skills, knowledge and/or competencies to be able to make informed choices about the media content and services that they consume, create and disseminate.
  • Projects or initiatives that have previously won an MLI award are not eligible.

Additional guidelines for Best Community-based Media Literacy initiative

  • The target audience for this initiative must have been people living in a community (geographic or community of interest), on the island of Ireland.
  • The initiative must have helped to empower the target audience to develop skills, knowledge and/or competencies to be able to make informed choices about the media content and services that they consume, create and disseminate.
  • Projects or initiatives that have previously won an MLI award are not eligible.

Additional guidelines for Best General Media Literacy initiative 

  • The initiative must have helped to (directly or indirectly) empower people living on the island of Ireland to develop skills, knowledge and/or competencies to be able to make informed choices about the media content and services that they consume, create and disseminate.
  • Projects or initiatives that have previously won an MLI award are not eligible.

Additional guidelines for Best Media-led Media Literacy initiative 

  • This media organisation, media professional or media collaboration must have consistently supported the work of MLI and/or promoted media literacy messages via their channels, in an empowering and engaging way, to people living on the island of Ireland.
  • Projects or initiatives that have previously won an MLI award are not eligible.
