As AI continues to transform how individuals, communities, and organisations communicate and operate, how can we empower different audiences to harness its benefits while recognising and navigating its risks? This session will explore how we can equip people, of all ages, with the AI literacy skills to critically engage with AI-driven media.

13:45 Promoting Information Integrity: Rising to the challenge (convened in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport)
The National Counter Disinformation Strategy recognises how the multi-dimensional, dynamic and life-long nature of media literacy can help to protect information integrity as part of a coordinated, national approach. This session will give an overview of the media literacy actions that are being undertaken as part of the Strategy, as well as a look as some of the factors that impact on the spread of disinformation and explore opportunities for collaboration and contribution to the work of the NCDS.

15:00 Lightning talks: Building Community, Citizenship, Democracy through media literacy
This series of short case study presentations about how media literacy projects are supporting communities, citizenship and democracy, followed by a ‘lessons learned and next steps’ discussion addressing issues such as selecting the right partners, meeting the audience where they are, co-designing for maximum impact, managing demand across the life course and evaluation for improved outcomes.
