The WLIC is an annual conference that regularly attracts 4,000 delegates from more than 100 countries across the world. This is the first time the WLIC has come to Ireland and it promises to be a week-long celebration of libraries and librarians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Library Association of Ireland<\/a> which represents all libraries and librarians in Ireland secured the conference for Dublin following a rigorous bidding process. This was helped by the availability of many outstanding venues around the city, plus significant support from Failte Ireland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marian Higgins, President of the Library Association, said \u201cWe are really looking forward to welcoming such a large number of librarians to Dublin and to Ireland. It is a great opportunity for us to attract world-class leaders to the country and to show our international colleagues what Irish libraries do best\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions<\/a> (IFLA) is the leading international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users. It is the global voice of the library and information profession and the main conference organisers. Gerald Leitner, Secretary General of IFLA commented \u201cAll signs point to an excellent congress in an exciting location\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The WLIC will run from 15th to 21st August 2020 in the Convention Centre Dublin. Tours of libraries, cultural activities and other events will take place throughout the week. In addition, various \u2018satellite\u2019 meetings will be held in Dublin and elsewhere both beforehand and afterwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
