{"id":5950,"date":"2025-09-29T12:34:58","date_gmt":"2025-09-29T11:34:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.medialiteracyireland.ie\/?p=5950"},"modified":"2025-09-29T12:35:00","modified_gmt":"2025-09-29T11:35:00","slug":"media-literacy-for-the-presidential-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.medialiteracyireland.ie\/ga\/media-literacy-for-the-presidential-election\/","title":{"rendered":"Media Literacy for the Presidential Election"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>With the Presidential Election scheduled for 24 Ocotber, now is a great time for a reminder about how to recognise accurate and reliable information and avoid potential mis\u2013 and disinformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below are some helpful resources to guide you in the run-up to the election:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/edmo.eu\/thematic-areas\/elections\/european-elections\/be-election-smart-campaign\/\"><strong>Be Election Smart<\/strong><\/a> campaign is an online campaign by EDMO Ireland and MLI which highlights practical tips to be mindful of when navigating news, commentary, and advertising about the election.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.electoralcommission.ie\/check-the-register\/?gad_source=1\"><strong>Electoral Commission<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>Is the independent body that oversees elections in Ireland. Its website provides information around the voting process. In April 2024 it published the <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.electoralcommission.ie\/app\/uploads\/2024\/04\/23163750\/Framework-on-Online-Electoral-Process-Information-Political-Advertising-and-Deceptive-AI-content.pdf\">Framework on Online Electoral Process Information, Political Advertising and Deceptive AI Content<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemediasmart.ie\/\"><strong>Be Media Smart<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>campaign is an initiative of MLI that encourages people to Stop, Think and Check that the information they are getting, from whatever source, is accurate and reliable.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.factchecking.ie\/\"><strong>The FactCheck Knowledge Bank <\/strong><\/a>was created by TheJournal.ie to provide information and tools for citizens to become their own fact-checkers. There is a specific page on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.factchecking.ie\/articles\/the-new-misinformation-around-elections\">how to navigate elections<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnam.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Coimisiun_na_Mean_Broadcast_Guidelines_Nov2024.pdf\"><strong>Guidelines in Respect of Broadcast Coverage of Elections<\/strong><\/a>.
