With young people accessing vast amounts of information online, the discussions focused on how best to protect and empower them to navigate the powerful influences shaping their experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hosted by Gavan Reilly (Virgin Media), the event featured keynote contributions from the 5Rights Foundation, the European Centre for Algorithmic Transparency, Professor Debbie Ging (Dublin City University), and Niamh Hodnett, Online Safety Commissioner at Coimisi\u00fan na Me\u00e1n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.medialiteracyireland.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/D27732-0105-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5594\" style=\"width:460px;height:auto\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Professor Debbie Ging (Dublin City University)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Insights were also shared by the Webwise Youth Advisory Panel, Hotline.ie, ISPCC, the National Parents Council Primary, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, Oide Technology in Education, Media Literacy Ireland and Microsoft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.medialiteracyireland.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/D27732-0175-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5596\" style=\"width:444px;height:auto\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>(L\u2013R) Martina Chapman, Catherine Cross, Kevin Doherty, Amanda Jolliffe and Stephen from the YAP<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Recordings of all keynotes and sessions are available on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webwise.ie\/news\/saferinternetday2025-event\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">webwise.ie<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SID 2025 also marked the release of new research in partnership with the DCU Anti-Bullying Centre: <a href=\"https:\/\/antibullyingcentre.ie\/exploring-how-young-people-navigate-the-evolving-online-world-in-the-era-of-artificial-intelligence-and-misinformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Exploring How Young People Navigate the Evolving Online World in the Era of Artificial Intelligence and Misinformation<\/strong>.<\/a> The study highlights how young people interact with digital spaces and identifies key areas for supporting their online wellbeing and resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prepare \/ Protect \/ Thrive &#8211; Awareness Campaign and Webinar Series<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What we see online can have a BIG impact &#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Safer Internet Day, Webwise encouraged parents, schools, educators, young people and stakeholders to reflect on role of influencers and algorithms in children and young people\u2019s lives. With access so much information online we explored how to protect and empower them to navigate the opportunities and challenges of these powerful influences.
