{"id":5612,"date":"2025-03-21T09:35:55","date_gmt":"2025-03-21T09:35:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.medialiteracyireland.ie\/the-childrens-manifesto-for-the-future-of-ai\/"},"modified":"2025-03-21T09:35:55","modified_gmt":"2025-03-21T09:35:55","slug":"the-childrens-manifesto-for-the-future-of-ai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.medialiteracyireland.ie\/ga\/the-childrens-manifesto-for-the-future-of-ai\/","title":{"rendered":"The Children\u2019s Manifesto for the Future of AI"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On 4 February 2025, approximately 150 children and young people aged between 8\u201318 from across the UK took part in the first ever <a href=\"https:\/\/www.turing.ac.uk\/research\/research-projects\/childrens-ai-summit-and-childrens-manifesto-future-ai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Children\u2019s AI Summit<\/a>. The Children\u2019s Manifesto for the Future of AI was developed from ideas, pitches and messages submitted to world leaders by children in the run-up to the summit. These ideas were further developed through consultation with children and young people. In total, around 200 children and young people have contributed to the development of this manifesto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coming straight from children themselves, this manifesto expresses their concerns and interests around the future of AI. It sets out their priorities and what they wanted world leaders at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elysee.fr\/en\/sommet-pour-l-action-sur-l-ia\/programme\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Paris AI Action Summit<\/a> to know about their hopes and concerns regarding AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Key actions asked of world leaders include the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>First and foremost \u2013 listen to children!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Put in place new laws that make sure that AI is developed and used ethically.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create more education about AI, so people understand better what it is and how it works, and also how they can use it well.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Require companies to be open and honest about the ways they use AI, and to be really clear about how AI systems have been developed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure that all children have the opportunity to benefit from AI.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Other concerns included the unequal access to AI, the creation of fake news and videos, and unemployment caused by AI replacing jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hopes of children for AI include creating a safer and more inclusive online world for children, the creation of better medicines and healthcare, and the development of new tools for scientific research.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can download the full manifesto <a href=\"https:\/\/www.turing.ac.uk\/news\/publications\/childrens-manifesto-future-ai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 4 February 2025, approximately 150 children and young people aged between 8\u201318 from across the UK took part in the first ever Children\u2019s AI Summit.
