This month we are including numerous new reports and published resources , as well as an extensive list of events for you to consider. Designed to help students, teachers and parents\/guardians understand the Online Safety Framework, the resources have been distributed to every post-primary school in Ireland. The aim of the initiative is to help\u00a0students understand their rights online under the new rules, learn how to how to report illegal and harmful content, and to recognise the role of Coimisi\u00fan na Me\u00e1n.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnam.ie\/online-safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>More<\/strong><\/a><br><br><strong>MLI featured in the European MediaSmartOnline campaign\u202f<\/strong><br>Launched across the EU on 24 October, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/better-internet-for-kids.europa.eu\/en\/media-smart-online\">MediaSmartOnline<\/a>\u00a0initiative aims to act as a guide to media literacy initiatives in Europe. It currently has over 120 entries. Users can browse by project type, audience or country, and MLI and Be Media Smart are featured under the Ireland category. It is part of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/better-internet-for-kids.europa.eu\/%22%20\/t%20%22_blank\">Better Internet for Kids (BIK)<\/a>\u00a0initiative, in cooperation with the Insafe network of Safer Internet Centers and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/media-and-learning.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Media &amp; Learning Association.<\/a> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/better-internet-for-kids.europa.eu\/en\/media-smart-online\/guide\/country\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">More<\/a><\/strong><br><br><strong>Webwise Online Safety Review Tool<\/strong>\u202f\u00a0<br>Webwise has launched a new Online Safety Review Tool that\u00a0helps schools assess and improve their online safety policy and practices. It outlines key steps for evaluating and enhancing online safety measures, allowing schools to reflect on strengths, address gaps, and access free resources and guidance. This tool supports a whole-school approach, ensuring a safer online environment for learners.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webwise.ie\/trending\/new-online-safety-review-tool\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>More<\/strong><\/a><br><br><strong>BEAT 102 103 wins IMRO Outstanding Achievement Award\u00a0<\/strong><br>Congratulations to MLI members Beat 102 103, who were awarded the prestigious Outstanding Achievement Award at the IMRO National Radio Awards for their Digital Media Literacy initiative.\u00a0Part funded by Comisi\u00fan na Me\u00e1n\u2019s Sound and Vision scheme, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.medialiteracyireland.ie\/beat-102-103-launches-digital-media-literacy-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u2018Digital Media &amp; You\u2019<\/a>\u00a0roadshow brought the \u2018Stop, Think, Check\u2019 message to over 2,000 First Year students across the South East, over a period of four months. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beat102103.com\/beat\/beat-is-outstanding-achievement-winner-at-imro-national-radio-awards-2024-1179980\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>More<\/strong><\/a><br><br><strong>Ofcom enhances its Evaluation Toolkit<\/strong><br>Ofcom has extended its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ofcom.org.uk\/siteassets\/resources\/documents\/research-and-data\/media-literacy-research\/making-sense-of-media\/evaluate\/toolkit\/evaluation-toolkit.pdf?v=379462%22%20\\t%20%22_blank\">Evaluation Toolkit<\/a>\u00a0with the addition of a bank of outcomes, indicators and survey questions. The topic of Artificial Intelligence was chosen for this year\u2019s consultation report, as children increasingly spoke about AI and the role it plays in their lives during workshops across schools. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medialiteracyireland.ie\/barnados-explores-ai-with-children-and-young-people\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>More<\/strong><\/a><br><br><strong>EDMO Guidelines for Effective Media Literacy Initiatives\u202f<\/strong>\u202f\u00a0<br>The European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) has published\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/edmo.eu\/areas-of-activities\/media-literacy\/raising-standards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Guidelines<\/a>\u00a0for Effective Media Literacy Initiatives.\u202fConsisting of 12 concise principles and supported by simple, but well-tested guidelines, this resource has been designed for use by anyone involved in the development of media literacy initiatives. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medialiteracyireland.ie\/european-digital-media-observatory-edmo-have-launched-the-edmo-guidelines-for-effective-media-literacy-initiatives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>More<\/strong><\/a><br><br><strong>Ofcom publishes three-year media literacy strategy<\/strong><br>Ofcom\u2019s Making Sense of Media programme has published three key documents setting out Ofcom\u2019s work towards its goal of making media literacy everyone\u2019s business.
