{"id":3698,"date":"2023-11-30T12:48:07","date_gmt":"2023-11-30T12:48:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.medialiteracyireland.ie\/?p=3698"},"modified":"2023-11-30T12:48:08","modified_gmt":"2023-11-30T12:48:08","slug":"eurav-launches-new-programmes-for-older-adults","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.medialiteracyireland.ie\/ga\/eurav-launches-new-programmes-for-older-adults\/","title":{"rendered":"EurAV launches new programmes for older adults"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>EurAV has launched a series of eight audio\/visual programmes aimed at older adults that they created as part of a transnational media literacy project with organisations from Italy, North Macedonia and Slovakia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are eight short lessons on media literacy followed by eight radio studio panel discussions,\u201d explained Declan Cassidy, CEO of EurAV. \u201cThe project, DiSeRA (Disinformation of Seniors in Rural Areas) is led by a Sicilian counterpart, New Horizons, and \u2013 just like the title suggests \u2013 is aimed at older people in rural areas who, research shows, are more susceptible to scams and inaccurate information as they try to navigate the digital world in which they find themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lessons, developed by EurAV as the media experts in the project, have been translated and localised for each of the four partner countries and are primarily audio focussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHere in Ireland, we\u2019ve created an audio visual version so that we can share it online also,\u201d explained Declan, \u201cbut the lessons and discussions that take place afterwards are aimed to be radio-friendly as many of the older target group are more likely to tune in to the radio than watch content online.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.medialiteracyireland.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/EueAV-image.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3699\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.medialiteracyireland.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/EueAV-image.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.medialiteracyireland.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/EueAV-image-420x236.jpg 420w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Fiona Ashe, (Film Maker and Media Trainer), Moira Cassidy (Project Manager at EurAV), Bill Tyson (Journalist) and Declan Cassidy (Executive Director, EurAV) during a panel discussions in NearFM Radio<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The panel discussions that follow each short lesson were recorded with the cooperation of NearFM, the Dublin-based community radio station, and feature EurAV team members along with Bill Tyson, multi-award-winning journalist and columnist as well as Fiona Ashe, film maker and media specialist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere was a lot of expertise around the table,\u201d reflected Declan, himself a former journalist. \u201cWhile the lessons were aimed at older adults, I feel that the content will be of interest to anyone wanting to know more about media literacy.
