Taking place from 24 to 28 October 2022<\/strong> in alignment with the UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2022<\/a>, The European Media Literacy Week 2022 is an initiative by the European Commission to underline the societal importance of media literacy and highlight existing media literacy initiatives and projects across the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Media literacy stakeholders, in particular those at the regional and national levels, are encouraged to organise their own events during or around this week, to celebrate and discuss media literacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The guiding theme for European Media Literacy Week 2022 is ‘Media Literacy in Times of Crisis \u2013 Promoting Trust and Cohesion<\/em>‘, confirming the importance of media literacy for trust and cohesion in society. Media literacy is a crucial instrument for promoting trust, as it equips citizens to process the information they encounter online and distinguish trusted sources from misleading news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A virtual kick-off event on 25 October 2022 marks the main event of the European Media Literacy Week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

V\u011bra Jourov\u00e1, Vice President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency, will open the event, followed by a welcome address by Sandra S\u00e4rav, Deputy Secretary General of the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Alexander Stubb, Director of the School of Governance at the European University Institute, will deliver a keynote speech focusing on the political dimension of media literacy and its importance for society and democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A central component of this event will be a panel discussion on this year’s motto: \u201cMedia literacy in Times of Crisis \u2013 Promoting Trust and Cohesion\u201d. Panelists from various institutions will discuss the topic from a governmental, non-governmental and private sector perspective. MLI Co-Chair Stephanie Comey will participate in this panel discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will be streamed online, and decision makers, stakeholders, and interested citizens from across the EU are invited to join.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
