{"id":2859,"date":"2023-01-31T12:30:42","date_gmt":"2023-01-31T12:30:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.medialiteracyireland.ie\/?p=2859"},"modified":"2023-01-31T13:23:53","modified_gmt":"2023-01-31T13:23:53","slug":"media-literacy-for-democracy-programme-launched-with-publication-of-booklet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.medialiteracyireland.ie\/ga\/media-literacy-for-democracy-programme-launched-with-publication-of-booklet\/","title":{"rendered":"Media Literacy for Democracy\u2019 programme launched with publication of booklet"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>TASC (Think tank for action on social change) is the Irish partner in a new \u2018Media Literacy for<br>Democracy\u2019 programme designed to promote an effective media literacy strategy to tackle<br>disinformation, empower citizens to make informed decisions and protect democratic values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The consortium brings together 6 partners from Ireland, Italy, Spain, Bulgaria and Poland who will<br>deliver 10 events across the participating partners\u2019 countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The first of these events took place online on Friday 20 January and marked the <a href=\"https:\/\/fidu.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/MLFDfinal.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">publication of a<br>booklet<\/a> aimed at informing citizens about the negative impact of disinformation on democratic<br>societies and the importance of media literacy to build civil society capacity to adapt to the digital<br>era and to protect democratic values. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tCCaAFOWXhM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">A recording of the launch event can be viewed online.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Phase 2 of the project will involve context analysis and stimulation of the debate among citizens and<br>consist of five local focus groups designed to understand how young citizens perceive the mis- and<br>disinformation phenomena and how they deal with them while using traditional and new media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Phase 3 of the project will focus on the empowerment of communities through a targeted media<br>education for a more conscious and active participation in the public debate. This phase will include<br>3 international workshops where participants will interact with journalists, expert lecturers and CSOs<br>representatives with the aim to empower them to become more informed digital citizens and able<br>to transfer the acquired knowledge to their local communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>With the goal to help define an effective European strategy to promote media literacy in the<br>Member States, a set of policy recommendations addressed to civil society, media workers and local<br>and international institutions will be drafted and presented to a wide audience during the project\u2019s<br>final conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The project partners are <a href=\"https:\/\/fidu.it\/language\/it\/homepage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FIDU<\/a>\u00a0(Lead partner, Italy), <a href=\"https:\/\/foundationece.eu\/mission\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Foundation for Entrepreneurship,<br>Culture and Education<\/a>\u00a0(Bulgaria), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasc.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TASC<\/a>\u00a0(Ireland), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionalternativas.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fundacion Alternativas<\/a>\u00a0(Spain),<br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ujaen.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Universidad de Ja\u00e9n<\/a>\u00a0(Spain) and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.usz.edu.pl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Uniwersytet Szczecinski\u00a0<\/a>(Poland).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The project will run until the end of April 2024 and is funded by the European<br>Commission under the CERV Programme.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TASC (Think tank for action on social change) is the Irish partner in a new \u2018Media Literacy forDemocracy\u2019 programme designed to promote an effective media literacy strategy to tackledisinformation, empower citizens to make informed decisions and protect democratic values.
